Musical Stories | The Big Dreaming | The Point, Doncaster

  • The Point 16 South Parade Doncaster, England, DN1 2DR United Kingdom (map)

Concerteenies is proud to be working in partnership with darts to present two performances of the ‘The Big Dreaming’, as part of darts’ tuneful chatter project.

‘The Cold is coming, and it's time for Big Bear and Little Bear to get ready for the Big Sleep: for bears sleep all winter long, and wake up in the spring. But Little Bear is worried. What if they run out of dreams during the Big Sleep? And so, Little Bear sets out bravely to find enough dreams to see them through the long winter. On his journey, he discovers dreams of happiness; dreams of homecoming; and dreams of hope. But with the Cold approaching fast, will Little Bear make it back home in time for the Big Dreaming?

Pianist Tom Pickles and narrator Polly Ives combine new music composed by award-winning Paul Rissmann with the book written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Daniel Egnéus. The performance also features stunning digital animation by Victor Craven.

With songs, actions and makaton signs to join in with and a relaxed, friendly environment, this is an ideal introduction to music, animation and storytelling.

Join us in the dance studio 30 mins each before the concert for a ‘Make a Dreamcatcher’ activity, a sensory corner and make a den.

This piece was commissioned by Concerteenies (2023), and is possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England, the PRS foundation and the Vaughan Williams Foundation.
It was co-created with children and teachers at Beck Primary School and Whiteways Primary School in Sheffield. The Big Dreaming is published by Bloomsbury Children’s Books.
